As the Tampa Bay region continues to grow exponentially, Pinellas County Economic Development (PCED) plays a pivotal role in fostering smart economic growth and vitality for our community. Their team felt it was time to evaluate their brand’s relevancy to continue its success in promoting Pinellas County as the most desirable place to build a business.
The PCED brand identity was last revisited 20+ years ago, and stakeholders determined the logo and marketing materials needed a refresh to resonate with potential audiences. The current logo and materials lacked a modern feel and did not effectively showcase the Pinellas County area as a vibrant, diverse community. The PCED team sought a logo and visual identity that encapsulated the warm, tropical feeling of Pinellas County, while still complimenting current brand elements including the bright color palette and imagery of a palm tree.
Our creative team reviewed the existing brand, the palm tree logo, the newly launched website, and old marketing materials. We also researched economic development organizations around the state and the nation to compare the look and feel of similar brands. “We felt that those with wordmarks had the most visual impact across digital platforms and print materials,” said Angela Stork, Creative Director. “And this inspired us to create silhouettes of palm trees, waves, and sunsets contained within the acronym, modernizing it, while paying homage to the former logo.”
After exploring and presenting multiple concepts to our client, PCED selected a logo that utilizes elements of the palm tree and waves to showcase the land and sea aspects that Pinellas County has to offer. These elements are brought to life abstractly within the lettering of the acronym, using their vibrant color palette providing an energetic, yet sophisticated, mark to represent the county.
Upon final approval of the logo, we redesigned a full business suite (including letterhead, envelopes, note cards, and business cards), an annual report template, email template, business sector flyers, pop-up banners, and more. All of these materials were updated to position Pinellas County as the ideal business climate.
Our team is proud of the opportunity to work with PCED as they continue to lead our area in development and prosperity. We look forward to continuing to work with them!
