St. Petersburg Preservation is a decades-old local nonprofit who engaged us to create their strategic marketing plan. In-depth research revealed two important discoveries:
First, there was much confusion about the name. Was this a history museum? An affluent historical society? An extremist group who tethers themselves to buildings in demolition protest? Since they were none of these, our first step became renaming the organization.
Second, there was a disconnect between board and member perceptions of the organization’s mission. The good news was both groups agreed the organization should be the authority in historic preservation and the go-to reference for community leaders regarding smart growth in our city.
The new name and logo were revealed at their 40th anniversary celebration. Preserve the ‘Burg was the new moniker, supporting the mission to educate, advocate, and celebrate what makes St. Pete special.
The hexagon, a notable symbol of historic St. Pete, inspired the new look. Maintaining navy in the color pallet paid homage to their traditional past, while modern highlights of teal brightened the look. Illustrations of a variety of iconic buildings in St. Pete tout their historic achievements.
In addition to the name and logo, our agency executed a business suite, brochures, stickers, t-shirts, social media graphics, and an advocacy piece.

Our agency was engaged to create marketing materials to promote Preserve the 'Burg's second annual “Keep St. Pete Special” event, which brings the community together for a day to celebrate everything that makes St. Pete unique.
Key components symbolizing St. Pete - art, bike-riding, craft beer, dog friendly, historic charm, to name a few - were used in creating this logo. We illustrated these elements using the brand’s colors navy and teal while adding complements of sunny yellow to bring the campaign to life.
Beyond the logo, we developed social media graphics, stickers, a poster, postcard, and animated the illustration for digital promotion.
As part of their rebrand, Preserve the 'Burg paid homage to the past 40 years of the organization's efforts through storyboards that celebrated wins and even some losses.
